We have an update on Tuesday’s structure fire in Cranesville.
None of the home’s five occupants were injured, but two pets are unaccounted for.
Fire departments from Erie and Crawford counties were sent to East Crane Street at 4:30 Tuesday afternoon.
According to the chief in charge of the scene, the fire started on the front porch and the house was engulfed when he got there.
The intensity of the fire wasn’t the only challenge; crews had to use multiple tankers and fill sites to get water on the blaze because the hydrant was out of order.
Tuesday night’s heat was also a major problem, with extra departments called to provide relief.
“It’s rough conditions today. You’ve got full gear on, you’ve got a pack on and you’re inside fighting a house fire that’s fully involved,” said Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Crane. “Two and a half hours and we finally got it under control. It’s an old farm house, planks and stuff like that. Fire could hide everywhere.”
The chief said a few firefighters went down from the heat, but none of them went to the hospital.
The other units on scene included a rehab trailer from the Kuhl Hose Company with drinks and other supplies to help firefighters cool down.
The fire also damaged the siding on two neighboring homes.
The cause is under investigation.
