(WJET/WFXP)– The City of Erie said Wednesday they’re close to finishing their investigation into a video of a police officer striking a suspect with their cruiser then punching him while handcuffed.
The city announced on their social media they’re in the final stages of reviewing the evidence available to them and expects to release a full, comprehensive report by the end of the week.
The investigation follows the circulation of a social media video that appears to show a City of Erie police cruiser colliding with 41-year-old Keven Sparks during an arrest, followed by officers hitting him multiple times.
According to court documents, Sparks was wanted for theft and trespassing and had outstanding warrants in Erie and Venango counties.
The video has been widely shared since the incident occurred on June 28 and has sparked broader conversations about the Erie Police Department’s relationship with the public.
