Erie Police are investigating what led to a newborn baby being found abandoned in bushes on the city’s east side.
According to Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah, officers were called to the area of East 29th Street between French and Holland streets Tuesday night after receiving a report of a crying baby outside.
When officers arrived, they found a newborn infant in a patch of bushes. Chief Lorah said the baby appeared to be only a couple of hours old.
The infant was taken to a local hospital and is reported to be in good condition.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the area and interviewing neighbors as they work to identify the child’s parents and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Brian Barber at 814-870-1516.
The investigation remains ongoing.
