The price here at Freedom Fuel Network is 382. That’s 25 cents higher than the 357 we saw last week. Customers tell me that’s still cheaper than what they’re seeing across other pumps. They say the priority is saving money and experts tell us of other ways to do so. AAA says it’s tricky to anticipate *** certain price. We can’t predict what the future will bring to cause those prices to move up or down, and other customers feel like their hands are tied. Yeah, I don’t support the principle of how this gas is going, but I’m not going to give up *** good deal. Karen says. Driving to this pump is her cheapest option, so I don’t have other ways to. Decrease my cost through *** program or something, but AAA says there are other ways to optimize your fuel and your money. Yeah, one of the best ways you can save gas is to watch your speed. Your fuel economy peaks around 50 MPH on most cars and drops off as your speed increases. Reducing excessive idling as well as signing up for gas rewards programs can also make *** difference and while AAA tells me we can’t predict those prices, those small changes that save you some gas go *** long way in Cumberland County. Gas prices in Pennsylvania are nearing $4 per gallon, with the state average currently at $3.99, according to AAA, as drivers adjust their habits to save money.Drivers search for lower gas pricesAt the Freedom Fuel Network in Cumberland County, customers are drawn to the pumps for lower prices. For some, the rising prices feel unnecessary, but others say they are not surprised. “No, it’s not really surprising, not with what’s going on in the world today,” said Carl Blust.AAA points to volatilityAAA explained that even small geopolitical shifts can lead to significant changes in gas prices. “This is not something that’s new to us. We’ve seen gas prices go up and down all year. It’s been very volatile since February,” said Doni Fox of AAA. While the state average remains just under $4, some drivers are encountering much higher prices. “Like $4.89 a gallon. It’s crazy,” Blust said. Some drivers go the extra mile to saveBlust added that driving a little farther for cheaper gas is worth it. “Oh yeah, right now it is, it is to me,” he said. Other customers, like Mia Ckels, are traveling even greater distances to save. “I come from a little farther south. Round there, it’s about four dollars a gallon right now. Just a little more favorable here. About 20 cents cheaper,” Ckels said. Prices still below earlier highsAAA noted that while prices may feel high, they are still lower than earlier this year. “It is less than what we were paying back on May 21 when we were $4.56 a gallon,” Fox said. “But when you think back to February, you know we were low, three dollars a gallon.”
