So maybe I’ll be back tomorrow.”Kevin Lynch of Squirrel Hill came straight from work, hoping to catch the historic moment.”We got here after work a little bit after 6, and we’re hoping to see the bridge come down,” Lynch said. “And just tonight wasn’t the night for it.”For some neighbors, anticipation had been building for days.”It’s been kind of fun this week to see everybody out kind of anticipating the, I guess, boom, that’s going to happen,” said Sarah Niskanen from Squirrel Hill. “But bummed. So we’ll have to wait until tomorrow morning, I guess.”Lauren Ambrogio of Greenfield said she was disappointed to miss the demolition because she has to work the next day.”I was disappointed because I wanted to see it,” Ambrogio said. “And tomorrow I have to go to work.”Still, she wasn’t surprised by the change in plans.”I take everything with a grain of salt,” Ambrogio said.Many spectators said they still hope to return if they’re able.”It’s just a really cool engineering feat,” said Jennifer Brodt of Squirrel Hill. “Kind of proud that, you know, we’re doing this and hopefully on time, on schedule, but I don’t know, we’ll see.” PennDOT said the delay was necessary so the contractor could continue safety preparations before the implosion.Despite the disappointment, many people said safety comes first.”A little frustrating for sure,” Amy Grossman and Lauren Ambrogio of Greenfield said. “But as long as they’re all safe, that’s all that matters.”PennDOT said the bridge implosion is now expected to take place sometime Thursday, likely during the first half of the day.Download the WTAE app to stay connected with breaking news.
