ADAMS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A man is accused of raping a woman at a central Pennsylvania home on his wedding night.

Felony charges of rape and sexual assault, as well as several misdemeanors, were filed Thursday against Zachary Prouty, 38, of Kentucky, court records show.

The criminal complaint states a woman went to Gettysburg Hospital for a sexual assault exam and spoke with Bonneauville Police on Oct. 17. She said she traveled to Gettysburg to attend Prouty’s wedding.

She explained how she was drinking throughout the evening and went to a home in Gettysburg. After several people went to bed, she reported being alone with Prouty. According to the complaint, Prouty allegedly kissed her without her consent despite her telling him to stop.

Prouty allegedly kissed her again in the kitchen area and the woman reported losing consciousness and not remembering anything.

Police said she told them that when she woke up, she was naked and in a bedroom that she did not mean to sleep in.

Prouty’s DNA was collected via buccal swab and was sent to the Pennsylvania State Police for testing, according to court documents. The results from that test came back in March and matched DNA from the woman’s hospital exam.

“The report further concluded that the male DNA profile was approximately 95 billion times more likely to have originated from Zachary Prouty than from an unknown unrelated individual,” the charging officer wrote in the complaint.

After Prouty was arraigned, he was released on unsecured bail set at $50,000 by Magisterial District Judge Christopher Snyder, court records show. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 12.
