Several people were injured, police said, when a shuttle — that a police official told NBC10 was carrying nurses — crashed along Columbus Boulevard in South Philly on Friday morning.
According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the crash happened near the intersection of Reed Street and South Columbus Boulevard at about 6:30 a.m.
Contacted Friday morning, Small said the vehicle involved was a shuttle “full of nurses” but, he did not immediately know how many people were on the shuttle at the time of the crash.
Small said “multiple injuries” were initially reported, but the severity of these injuries was not immediately known.
The cause of the crash was not immediately provided by police, either.
But, he said an investigation is ongoing as the situation unfolds.
As of about 7:30 a.m., police were directing traffic around the area, causing some delays for early morning commuters.
However, by about 8:30 a.m., the roadway had been reopened after the van was removed from the roadway.
