The City of Erie has wrapped up the fact-finding phase of its internal investigation into a police pursuit that ended with a suspect being struck by a police cruiser and arrested.
The incident was captured on video.
According to Mayor Daria Devlin, investigators have completed their review of the case. The city must now determine whether police policies and procedures were followed and whether any administrative action will be taken against the two officers involved.
Mayor Devlin provided an update on the investigation Thursday, July 17 at City Hall.
The incident occurred June 28 near East 23rd and Wallace streets. Erie News Now obtained video showing a police cruiser driving onto a sidewalk and striking 41-year-old Keven Sparks as he attempted to flee from officers on an e-bike.
The video then shows Sparks getting up and running from police before being taken to the ground and arrested.
Sparks was wanted on multiple warrants and is now facing additional charges.
Once the city reaches a final decision, Mayor Devlin said officials will notify the public and provide Erie News Now with an update.
