A Scranton man faces charges after making threatening comments to his wife and punching her in the mouth, police said.

When officers responded to 122 Bengar Drive on Saturday for the report of a physical domestic, they spoke with Surya Limbu, Ran Gurung, and their daughter, according to a criminal complaint.

Both Limbu and Gurung did not speak English and used a translator to talk with officers, police said.

Officers observed Limbu had a cut on her lip and dried blood on her shirt, according to the criminal complaint.

Limbu told police she has been married to Ran Gurung for 20 years and they have recently been having trouble with their marriage, officers said.

She added that the fighting has been escalating, and Gurung frequently tells her that he is going to kill her, police said. Recently, he told Limbu he was going to kill her by “cutting her up,” according to the criminal complaint.

Limbu told police their daughter needed a ride Friday to meet her friends for Halloween, and she advised her to ask her father because she was sleeping, officers said.

Gurung accused Limbu of wanting him to leave so she could talk with another man and made her go with him for the drive, police said.

Limbu said they had an argument in the vehicle, which led him to slap her in the face and then punch her in the mouth, causing her teeth to go through her upper lip, according to the criminal complaint.

Gurung told officers he had an argument with Limbu about who was going to drive their daughter and added they continued to fight in the vehicle, police said. He informed police she started to slap him, and he slapped her back and struck her again because he was afraid she would cause him to get into an accident, officers said.

The daughter said her parents continued to argue in the car and that her father punched her mother, according to the criminal complaint.

Officers instructed Limbu about how to obtain a protection-from-abuse order from Gurung.

Police charged Gurung, 122 Bengar Drive, with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment.

Gurung, 39, was released on $2,500 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 14 at 10 a.m.
