Visiting Gateway only had three hits, but that was plenty for the Grizzlies to beat the Crushers, 7-0, on July 18 at ForeFront Field in Avon.
Crushers All-Star Edwin Sanchez retired the first nine batters he faced and held the Grizzlies scoreless through four innings. But Sanchez ran into trouble in the fifth inning. The Grizzlies went ahead on a three-run single, with one of the runs being unearned because of a Lake Erie throwing error.
Gateway added one run in the seventh inning and three more in the ninth, with two of the runs in the ninth also unearned because of a dropped third strike.
Sanchez (5-3) pitched five innings and gave up three runs (two earned), struck out four and walked three.
Lake Erie (26-33) had four hits, including three doubles.
