The 34th Annual Paul “Hook” O’Malley 1 Mile Firecracker Run/Walk Race Against Cancer will be held Sunday, Aug. 16, at 707 North South Road, Scranton. This year’s race will be run in memory of Jim Moran, who was involved in the past 33 “Hook” O’Malley races against cancer and was the past president of Scranton Organized Area Runners, was on the Steamtown Marathon committee and stayed active in the running community, and ran in numerous marathons throughout the country. The name of this year’s first overall male and female award will be changed to the Jim Moran first place overall male and female. Registration will be from 8:15-9:45 a.m. The race will start promptly at 10 a.m. Preregistration is $20 until Aug. 14. On the day of the race registration is $25. For junior/senior high school track and cross country student runners ages 12-19, registration is $10. All donations benefit the American Cancer Society.
