Abington American won the District 17 Little League All-Star Tournament title with a 12-0 win in 3½ innings over Abington National. Jon Walski fired a four-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts. He also contributed a three-run home run. … Carbino Club completed a run through the losers’ bracket to win the District 17 Senior Little League championship with a 16-3 victory over Lakeland. John Bzdick and winning pitcher Joe Canevari each had three hits. … Jason Sarcinelli had a home run, double and four RBIs to help the Northeastern Pennsylvania Big League all-stars blank District 16 Wilkes-Barre in five innings, 13-0, to complete a two-game series sweep and qualify for the state tournament. … Rusty Wallace took the lead with 30 laps remaining and drove on to victory in the Miller 500 NASCAR Winston Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway. Ricky Rudd finished second and Dale Jarrett was third.

Abington Heights graduate Amber Jacobs scored a career-high 24 points to help the Minnesota Lynx beat the Chicago Sky, 90-82, in WNBA action. … Rookie Denny Hamlin started on the pole and led 151 of 200 laps to win the Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway, completing a sweep of the two NASCAR Nextel Cup races at the 2.5-mile triangular track in Long Pond. He is the sixth driver to take both races at Pocono in a season since the series started coming to the track twice in 1982. … Winning pitcher Shawn Eiffert struck out 10 and helped his cause with three hits as Weston Park beat Pennridge, 10-2, to claim the Section 4 title and return to the Senior League baseball state tournament. Steve Marciano and Bobby Markowski added two hits apiece for Weston Park. … Andrew Muckin cracked a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to lift Christy Mathewson to a 12-10 win over South Scranton and the District 17 10-11 baseball championship.

North Pocono’s Tim Blaine caught four passes for 91 yards and one touchdown to help lead the City over the County, 35-8, in the 82nd Scranton Lions Club Dream Game. Quarterback Matt Gaul from West Scranton passed for 83 yards and two scores, while Matt Kelly, also of North Pocono, returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown. … District 11 captured the Region 5 Senior Legion All-Star Tournament title with a 9-4 win over Bradford County, Vince Cimini had two hits, Cory Miller doubled and Jordan Art and Pat Belardi each drove in two runs to back winning pitcher Ross Zhangi. … The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders franchise a team record for runs in an inning by scoring 12 times in the top of the sixth in a 14-2 win at the Charlotte Knights. The RailRiders sent 16 batters to the plate and collected 11 hits in the inning. Mason Williams had a sacrifice fly, Ike Davis a two-run single, Tyler Austin, Donovan Solano and Jake Cave RBI singles and Pete Kozma a two-run single before Gary Sanchez capped the outburst with a grand slam. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre also scored 12 runs, coincidentally at Charlotte, on Aug. 17, 1993.
