The Hellertown Borough Authority lifted a boil water advisory for its customers following the completion of required testing on Tuesday.

“Following the completion of the required sampling and testing as mandated by PADEP, it has been determined that the Boil Water Advisory can be lifted,” the authority said in a message emailed to residents.

The advisory, which began last Thursday after a “significant” water main break, had been expected to remain in effect until at least noon on Tuesday.

The delay in lifting the advisory was due in part to a power outage at the laboratory used for water testing, which made earlier samples unusable, according to the authority.

New water samples were collected Sunday, and more were gathered Monday afternoon. The authority worked with the lab and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) to obtain the required samples.

The authority, which provides water and sewer service to about 2,600 properties in the borough and parts of Lower Saucon Township, had been advising customers of the advisory via email and phone calls.
