A man has been hospitalized and a dog was killed, police said, in a shooting that happened along Kensington Avenue in Philly’s Kensington section, late Sunday.
According to police, the incident happened just before 11 p.m. on Sunday night in a vacant lot along the 2400 block of Kensington Avenue in Kensington when a man was shot twice in the leg.
In this same incident, officials said, a dog was shot and killed.
The man, officials said, was hospitalized following the shooting.
However, police did not immediately detail the severity of the victim’s injuries or provide further details on this incident.
Father Paul Lostritto, who works at St. Francis Inn Ministries across the street from the lot where the incident occurred, said the vacant lot has been an issue for the community in recent weeks.
“The neighbors behind here were getting upset with the messes that were being left there,” said Lostritto.
He told NBC10 that neighbors have confronted individuals staying in that lot and police officers are in the area regularly to keep people out of that lot.
“They don’t want them there,” he said.
Investigators were still working to determine what may have caused this incident, police said.
Also, officials did not immediately say if any arrests were made in this incident, nor did they provide any description of any suspects that may be sought in this shooting.
But, an investigation is underway.
