A Bensalem teenager is facing a felony charge after he allegedly pointed a gun at a store clerk before stealing candy.
The clerk reported that a teen boy entered a business at Street Road and High Avenue at approximately 1 a.m. July 17 and asked for free merchandise. When he was refused, the boy allegedly displayed what appeared to be a handgun.
“Do you want this?” the suspect asked, according to police.
The employee believed the weapon was real and backed away to avoid further confrontation, police said. The boy then allegedly took a piece of candy and left the store.
The clerk provided police with a detailed description of the suspect. Within minutes a detective located a boy matching his description on the township’s camera system as he entered the nearby Wellington Estates neighborhood.
Officers took the suspect into custody at Cheltenham Drive and William Penn Drive. The investigation found that the suspect, who is 14, was carrying an airsoft pistol, which was allegedly used in the robbery, police said.
Bensalem police confirmed the teen was charged as a juvenile with felony robbery and transported to the Bucks County Youth Detention Center in Doylestown.
