MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Fans heading to PNC Field this week will have a chance to help earthquake victims in Venezuela while supporting the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Just weeks after devastating earthquakes in Venezuela, the RailRiders are asking fans to donate essential items to aid recovery efforts.
“Honestly, we will take anything and everything; we’re just really thankful for those who will support us here at PNC Field in hopes of making an impact for those in Venezuela,” Krista Lutzick, the team’s community relations manager, said.
Lutzick said the donation drive is about helping with something bigger than baseball.
“If we can make an impact on those who are suffering thousands and thousands of miles away, it’s a great thing that we could do,” Lutzick said.
The team is asking for donations of new clothing, cleaning supplies, first-aid kits, flashlights, baby formula, nonperishable food items that are not expired and not in glass containers, and cases of water that are not in glass.
Anyone who donates from now until Sunday, July 26, will receive one free ticket voucher for an upcoming Tuesday or Wednesday night game this season at PNC Field.
Lutzick said the team has already seen strong support and hopes it continues through the end of the drive.
“I’ve honestly been sharing it with all my contacts, and we’re receiving a great response so far, and we’re really hoping that more donations continue to come in through Sunday,” Lutzick said.
Donations can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or brought to any of this week’s home games before entering the ballpark.
