SANDUSKY, Ohio (WJW) — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers had to use spike strips to stop a runaway pickup truck that reportedly locked up while cruise control was engaged.
It happened just after midnight on Tuesday, July 21, according to a news release.
Troopers received reports of a Dodge Ram 3500 that could not stop while headed west on state Route 2 in Lorain County.

“The driver told troopers that he could not stop the truck because the vehicle’s cruise control would not disengage,” reads the release. “The driver said the brakes were not working, the steering wheel was locked, and efforts to turn off the engine, shift into neutral, and engage the parking brake were unsuccessful.”

When the truck made it to Erie County, troopers were waiting for it with a tire deflation device, which helped bring the truck to a stop along the highway, “before it entered a construction zone,” reads the release.
Police from Amherst, Huron and Sheffield and Erie County sheriff’s deputies assisted.
