The issue began on Friday when drivers and residents reported that Apple Maps and PA-511, PennDOT’s preferred navigation service, were incorrectly routing traffic onto the closed street. While the problem seemed to be resolved late Saturday night, it resurfaced on Monday. A large truck was seen stuck on the road, and trailers were observed navigating in and out of the area. Residents even created their own signs to warn drivers about the closure. “It’s been just chaos. People are speeding. People are going the wrong way on one-way roads. You know, we’re a cut-through neighborhood. We are used to a lot of traffic when there is a problem on the parkway. But this is kind of above and beyond that,” said Christina Cerkevich, a Swisshelm Park resident. PennDOT said they have continued to report the closure to Apple. Meanwhile, the city has told residents that the issue is a PennDOT problem. Officials recommend downloading Google Maps and following the posted detour signs until the issue is resolved.
