Virgilio Sebastianelli

OBITUARY

Born in Peckville, he was the beloved son of Caterina Berardi Sebastianelli and the late Virgilio Sebastianelli. Virgilio was a graduate of Scranton Preparatory School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Scranton, followed by a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Marywood University.

He dedicated his professional life to serving others, first as Manager of Home and Community Based Services at the Northeast Pennsylvania Center for Independent Living and later as Director of In-Home Services at CIL Cares. Throughout his career, he helped countless individuals with disabilities and nursing home residents across 22 counties obtain the services and support they needed to live independently in their communities. Admired by colleagues for his kind and compassionate spirit, Virgilio was a mentor who inspired others to become caring and dedicated social service professionals. His work was more than a career, it was a calling rooted in dignity, empathy, and a genuine desire to improve the lives of others. Above all, Virgilio was a devoted son, loving brother, cherished partner, and loyal friend. He touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him with his warmth, generosity, and quiet strength. An avid walker, animal lover, and music enthusiast, he also enjoyed traveling and treasured every opportunity to spend time with family and friends. His presence brought comfort, kindness, and joy, and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

He is survived by his partner of 17 years, Jerry Yedinak; his sister, Rose Sebastianelli Cimini; his brother-in-law, Louis Cimini; and cousins both in the United States and in Italy.
