Erie police have made two arrests in connection to Erie’s first shooting homicide of the year.
The suspects are identified as 20-year-old Jaylin Daniels and 23-year-old Jewels Johnson.
The fatal shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. on July 7, near East 10th and Brandes Streets.
According to the criminal complaint, 61-year-old Frederick Torrence struck Daniels with his vehicle and drove with him on his hood for an entire block.
Police say Daniels then got into an SUV driven by Johnson, and pulled up behind Torrence.
Based on surveillance video, police say Daniels then ran up to Torrence’s vehicle and fired several shots.
According to the criminal complaint, Torrence then crashed his vehicle into the SUV, which disabled both vehicles.
Torrence suffered from gunshot wounds to his arm and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Johnson was arrested at the scene shortly after the shooting.
According to Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah, the initially had the warrant sealed to avoid tipping off Daniels.
Daniels was arrested on Monday, just outside of Pittsburgh.
Based on interviews, police determined that Torrence is an uncle to both of the suspects.
