DHS ends plans for 2 Pennsylvania immigration detention centers
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has canceled plans to convert two Pennsylvania warehouses into immigration detention centers.
One warehouse was located in Tremont Township, Schuylkill County, and the other in Upper Bern Township, Berks County.
The Shapiro administration said DHS withdrew its appeal of administrative orders that prohibited the use of water and sewer infrastructure needed for the conversion.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection said it will continue to monitor the facilities to ensure DHS follows through on its stated intention.
