Pirates designate Dennis Santana for assignment, acquire reliever Ron Marinaccio from Padres
PITTSBURGH —
The Pittsburgh Pirates designated relief pitcher Dennis Santana for assignment on Thursday, as the team traded for reliever Ron Marinaccio.
The 30-year-old Santana was 2-5 with a 6.05 ERA, two saves and two blown saves in 44 appearances for the Pirates this season.

Marinaccio, a 31-year-old right-hander, was acquired from the San Diego Padres in exchange for international signing bonus pool considerations.
Marinaccio was 1-0 with a 4.79 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 33 appearances for San Diego. The Padres designated him for assignment on Sunday.
