The man accused of fatally shooting his brother and wounding another man in a Reading apartment has been extradited to Berks County.
Berks deputy sheriffs on Wednesday brought Amaury Rosado-Laboy back from the Orange County Jail in Goshen, N.Y., where he had been held since he was taken into custody by Woodbury police on July 11.
Woodbury police in a Facebook post said license plate reader cameras flagged Rosado-Laboy’s vehicle. Police identified him as a suspect in the Reading case and stopped the vehicle. They said Rosado-Laboy was taken into custody without incident.
Rosado-Laboy, 43, who has no permanent address, was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Priscilla Campos on charges of first‑, second‑ and third‑degree murder; aggravated assault; burglary; and a weapons offense.
Rosado-Laboy was committed to the Berks County Jail without bail to await further court action.
He is accused of breaking into the apartment above a storefront in the 500 block of Lancaster Avenue on July 10 about 2 a.m. and shooting his brother, Alex B. Rosado‑Laboy, 45, who died at the scene, and another man, who suffered a gunshot wound to the jaw. Both victims lived in the apartment.
According to the probable cause affidavit:
Police arrived at the apartment for a 911 call about a shooting and encountered a man, listed in court documents as Victim #2, bleeding profusely from a gunshot wound to the jaw. Officers then found Alex Rosado‑Laboy dead on the kitchen floor.
City paramedics transported Victim #2 to Reading Hospital for further treatment.
A female resident told police that she was asleep in the rear bedroom when she was startled awake by the sound and flash of a gunshot. She saw a shadowy male figure running away.
Victim #2 came into the bedroom holding his face. He told her that Amaury Rosado‑Laboy had just shot him and Alex Rosado‑Laboy.
The woman jumped out of bed and saw Alex Rosado‑Laboy unresponsive on the floor. She called 911.
Police secured the apartment and surrounding area as a crime scene. Investigators noticed a window screen in the middle room appeared to have been forced in and bent. They also noticed the door to the bedroom of Victim #2 appeared to have been forced open, with wood surrounding the deadbolt cracked.
Footage from a nearby residential security camera shows a male exiting the front door of the apartment after the shooting and running west on Lancaster Avenue. He is seen wearing a backpack.
Additional footage shows the same man walking west in the north alley behind the 600 block of Lancaster Avenue about 2:05 a.m., approximately three minutes before police were dispatched for the shooting call.
