Erie Institute of Technology (EIT) has nearly completed a major modernization project designed to enhance hands-on training opportunities for students pursuing careers in the skilled trades.
The six-month project has transformed learning spaces across several of EIT’s programs, including CNC Machinist Technician, Electrical, Welding Technology, and HVAC-R Technology, with new equipment, expanded lab space, and reconfigured work areas aimed at providing students with more real-world training experiences.
Among the upgrades are four new HAAS CNC mini mills and lathes, which have replaced older equipment in the machining program. School officials say the newer machines not only expose students to modern manufacturing technology but also create additional floor space that can be used for instruction and training.
The modernization efforts also allowed EIT to significantly expand its electrical training facilities by consolidating separate spaces into one centralized lab.
The additional space also led to improvements in other departments. The welding lab was reconfigured to better support hands-on instruction, while the HVAC-R training lab received the most substantial expansion.
According to Holman, the larger HVAC training area will allow the school to accommodate significantly more students.
The enhancements come at a time when the HVAC industry continues to adapt to evolving technologies and refrigerant regulations. EIT officials say access to modern equipment helps ensure students graduate with experience using systems and tools they are likely to encounter in the workforce.
School leaders say the investment reflects EIT’s ongoing commitment to career-focused education that mirrors real-world job environments. By training on industry-standard equipment, students gain practical skills that can help ease the transition into entry-level positions after graduation.
