EASTON, Pa. – Easton’s first special needs playground is officially open.
Children have a lot of room to play outside at the Milton Street Park, in an all-inclusive environment.
“We have a bench that’ll be installed,” said Easton Vice Mayor Councilman Frank Pintabone. “We have a couple more upgrades we have to make to it.”
The finishing touches were carefully placed one by one early Friday afternoon.
“We moved it a little faster,” Pintabone said.
One month ahead of schedule.
“Because a couple families reached out and said ‘we see the equipment. We want to use it,'” said Pintabone.
Eager and excited, children of all ages gathered at the park’s newest addition.
“I had the idea 10 years ago maybe from a young man named Brandon, who had special needs and didn’t really have a place to go,” said Pintabone.
That’s when Pintabone said it was time for a special-needs playground in the city.
“I thought about it all the way back then, and held on to it,” said Pintabone.
Designed for inclusivity, with deep greens and browns shining bright in the sunlight.
The playground has all kinds of features, including a wheelchair swing, sensory boards and a wheelchair-accessible teeter-totter.
The playground is funded through budget adjustments, including a $10,000 donation from the Easton Lions to build a fence. That will be installed in a few weeks.
“We just want to celebrate the inclusivity and the opportunity for these individuals to have something for them,” Pintabone said.
It’s a place where everyone can swing into happiness and teeter on the edge of fun.
