Law enforcement officers arrested a Newton Twp. man Thursday alleging he had a large amount of illegal drugs at his residence, which police said he intended to sell.
Thomas Hazelton, of 2324 Milwaukee Road, faces multiple felony charges including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession charges.
Investigators arrested Hazelton, 45, in Scranton Thursday afternoon, after a month-long investigation.
They went on to seize about 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine, one pound of processed marijuana and 5.4 ounces of psilocybin mushrooms during a search of his home, after obtaining a search warrant, according to the complaint.
The investigation was a collaborative effort among the Scranton Police Street Crimes Unit, the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s office, Pennsylvania State Police Troop R Vice Unit, the Pennsylvania Attorney General and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
Hazelton remains in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $125,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Aug. 6 before District Judge Joanne Corbett.
“Communication and collaboration are key in making our county safer,” said Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian Gallagher in a news release. “I express my deep gratitude to the PSP Troop R Vice Unit, the Scranton Police Department Street Crimes Unit, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, the DEA, and our County Drug Unit for their continued cooperation and commitment to removing significant quantities of illegal drugs from our communities.”
