The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced Friday they signed goaltender Cam Johnson to an AHL contract for the 2026-27 regular season.
Last season, Johnson won his fourth Kelly Cup title with the Florida Everblades of the ECHL, and secured his third June M. Kelly Award as MVP of the playoffs — posting a 1.88 goals against average, .923 save percentage and three shutouts during the postseason. He also earned Kelly Cup MVP in 2022 and 2023.
Johnson, 32, also earned back-to-back Nick Vitucci awards in 2025 and 2026 as the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Year, and was selected as a first-team all-star.
In 253 ECHL games with Florida and the Adirondack Thunder, the Troy, Michigan, native has a record of 154-64-30, 2.22 goals against average, .918 save percentage and 20 shutouts.
Johnson played in 53 AHL games with the Binghamton Devils, Cleveland Monsters and Charlotte Checkers, and had an 18-25-8 record, 3.59 goals against average, .876 save percentage and one shutout.
Johnson also started at goaltender for the University of North Dakota when the Fighting Hawks won their last national title in 2016. In his four starts in the tournament, Johnson had a 1.50 goals against average and .944 save percentage.
