The Yo Adrienne! Improv Festival is back in the city for its sophomore year.

Set to run July 31 through Aug. 2, what this very-silly and very-Philly festival will bring is three days of unscripted comedy, nationally recognized performers, and community-driven programming to the Adrienne Theater in Rittenhouse Square.

As the largest improv festival in the region, the event will feature two stages and a line-up of spontaneous performances where comedians create characters, stories, and entire worlds in real time using audience suggestions.

This year’s lineup features a mix of touring acts and regional talent, headlined by RaaaatScraps, an improv ensemble hailing from NYC, appearing in what will be its final Philadelphia performance. Cast members Shannon O’Neill, Sebastian Conelli, Shane Nielsen, and Ryan Haney have experience in the comedy world on shows like ‘Broad City’, ‘The Chris Gethard Show’, ‘Search Party’, ‘The Other Two’, and ‘The George Lucas Talk Show.’

Local talent hitting the stage includes comedy teams It Doesn’t Matter and Barko, joined by performers traveling from across the country from  Richmond, Pittsburgh, Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Baltimore, and beyond.

The festival will also offer educational opportunities for improvisers at every experience level. Workshops (led by members of RaaaatScraps) will explore topics like making bold creative choices, elevating the craft of improvisation, and developing organic scene work. Additional sessions will be taught by veteran instructors Chris Alvarado, Michael Jastroch, and Mary Carpenter, author of ‘Do or Do Not: How to Improvise Like a Jedi’. The fest will also feature Open Improv Jams throughout the weekend.

“Some people are calling us one of the biggest comedy festivals in Philadelphia,” says the production team. “Is that true? Well, it depends on your definition of ‘biggest,’ ‘comedy,’ and ‘festival.’ What we can guarantee is that we are, in fact, in Philadelphia. Whether it’s your first improv show or just your most recent, we promise a great time with a lot of laughs. And unlike our shows, we’re not just making that up.”

Performances begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at the Adrienne Theater (2030 Sansom St.) Festival and day passes (starting at $20) are available, with discounted pricing for students and performers.
