EASTON, Pa. – A popular bakery is starting a fresh chapter with a new name, new location and new family-run focus with a wider assortment of offerings in Northampton County.
Cece’s House, a bakeshop and curated market, is expected to open in September at 16 N. Third St. in downtown Easton, owner Marissa Guarriello told 69 News.

Since 2021, Guarriello has operated The Modern Bakery – a nearby artisan bakery offering small-batch desserts – at 128 N. Third St., and she recently saw an opportunity to expand operations with a larger location, just down the road near Easton’s Centre Square.
In transitioning to 16 N. Third St., Guarriello decided to change the business’ name to Cece’s House, a nod to her mother, Cindy Greene, who will be working alongside her at the new location.
“We’re renaming the business Cece’s House, and that is because my mom is known as Cece to my niece,” Guarriello said.
“My mom is a fantastic interior designer, and so we’re going to also have some home decor, tableware and other items meant to complement the baked goods. For as long as I can remember, my mom has loved hosting small parties and get-togethers, and that’s rubbed off on me, for sure. So, that’s what I always envisioned creating for my business – a charming place where you feel like you’re entering our home. My mom is really great with the home decor, and so it’ll be a really warm and welcoming spot.”

Greene has more than 20 years of professional design experience, specializing in stylistic and curated renovations for homes and businesses.
She previously operated Greene Marketplace – a home furnishings and gift shop – for a few years in downtown Easton, and she also worked in New York’s design industry for several years.
At Cece’s House, Greene plans to offer a curated assortment of unique home decor, including lamps, vases, candlesticks and floral arrangements.
Shoppers also will be able to browse a variety of tableware, including plates, bowls, flatware and glassware, she said.
“We’re going to be selling the appropriate dishes to accompany the desserts that [Guarriello] will be making,” Greene said.
“We’re also going to have Christmas items and other decor that rotates with the seasons.”

Over the past few years, The Modern Bakery has built a large and loyal following by offering hand-crafted, tasty treats such as cookies, cinnamon rolls, macarons and macaron-stuffed cookies.
Her gluten-free macarons, available in varieties such as chocolate, vanilla bean, fruity cereal and cookies and cream, have won “best macaron” three years in a row in Lehigh Valley Style’s reader-voted “Best of the Lehigh Valley” contest.
Customers can enjoy rotating flavors of Guariello’s baked goods, including cookies such as m&m, “fat-fetti,” raspberry almond and red velvet marshmallow.
“My baked cookies are my current top seller,” she said.
“I make a bunch of different varieties, with dark chocolate sea salt being especially popular. I also have a cornbread-style cookie that’s kind of gone viral, as well as a honeybee cookie featuring a ball of whipped honey butter in the center.”
As Cece’s Bakehouse gets off the ground, The Modern Bakery’s brick-and-mortar location is closed to walk-in customers, but individuals can still score Guarriello’s baked goods at the Easton Farmers Market on Saturdays.
At the Easton Farmers Market, she does a “Spiral Bar,” where people can create their own custom cinnamon roll by choosing from a variety of frosting swirls such as cookie butter, lavender, Nutella and pistachio; and curated toppings such as mini chocolate chips, sliced almonds, rainbow sprinkles and fresh strawberry filling.

“Because I’ll have a lot more space after the move, I’m going to add that build-your-own cinnamon roll experience at Cece’s House,” Guarriello said.
“People will be able to choose from toppings like homemade oat crisp, shortbread crumble and various frostings, and create their own custom cinnamon roll anytime they want.”
Guarriello and Greene are still finalizing hours for Cece’s House, but the tentative plan is for it to operate at least five days a week.
Cece’s House will occupy a newly combined space that previously housed two separate units – one that was home to conscious concept store Casa 401 and raclette eatery and creperie Queso at Casa, which is continuing to operate via a mobile format; and another that was home to Ciao! Sandwich Shoppe, which recently moved operations across the street.
The space is undergoing renovations, with the Cece’s House team constructing a new counter, prep area and more.

Seating, including a new custom bench, for around a dozen guests will be available, Greene said.
Additional food and drink offerings are also planned.
“I’m still finalizing the menu, but I want to bring in some savory items along with some coffee and cold brew as well,” Guarriello said. “It wouldn’t be an extensive drink menu because there are already so many great coffee shops downtown.”

Chipotle Mexican Grill nearing completion of new Lehigh Valley location
FORKS TWP., Pa. – A popular fast-casual restaurant chain known for its made-to-order tacos, burritos, quesadillas and other Mexican eats is expanding its footprint in the region.
Chipotle Mexican Grill, with more than 4,100 locations worldwide, is planning to open a new location at 1900 Sullivan Trail in Forks Township.
Construction on the Forks location has ramped up in recent months, and exterior signage was recently installed.
An exact opening date has not yet been determined, but the Forks restaurant is scheduled to open “before the end of the year,” a Chipotle spokesperson told 69 News. Read more here.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A new restaurant will soon spice up south Bethlehem’s dining scene.
The Gully Kitchen, offering authentic Indian street food with a modern touch, will hold its grand opening at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at 203 E. Third St., co-owner Tushar Paul told 69 News.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce will be held at 5 p.m., and free bowls (one bowl per person on a first-come, first-served basis) will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Gully Kitchen, with seating for around 70 guests on two levels, will occupy an updated space that previously housed Alibi Bar & Lounge, an upscale bar and lounge that closed in spring 2025 after about a year of operation. Read more.

Lehigh Valley’s 2nd Mr. Bins store, offering Amazon overstock, sets grand opening date
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A new store coming soon to Bethlehem promises to offer “the ultimate deal hunt,” complete with “name brands, crazy prices, new drops weekly.”
The second Lehigh Valley location of Mr. Bins, which bills itself as the “biggest Amazon overstock store in PA,” will hold a grand opening at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 26, at 104 E. Third St. in south Bethlehem, CEO Sholom Butman told 69 News.
The updated space previously housed a Rite Aid store.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A new spot for locally made wines, specialty cocktails, signature small plates and more is coming soon to Lehigh County.
Soaked in the City, a new cocktail lounge from the team behind Soaked Winery, will hold a grand opening celebration from 5 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 13 at 932 Hamilton St. in downtown Allentown.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony, held in conjunction with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, will be held at 5:30 p.m.
The new venue will occupy a renovated space that previously housed a DeSales University education hub, which closed in 2025 after a little more than 2 years of operation.

Lehigh Valley distillery to hold sneak peek of reimagined tasting room, featuring gaming and dining areas
EMMAUS, Pa. – Whether you’re looking to enjoy a fresh cocktail, family dinner, or fun night out with friends, a popular distillery in Lehigh County is leveling up with more space, spirits, and services.
Triple Sun Spirits Co., crafting ultra-premium, small-batch spirits, has been temporarily closed to the public for upgrades since early March at 518 Bank St. in Emmaus.
The renovated venue, now known as “The Rail Yard,” will hold a sneak peek event from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, ahead of its tentative soft reopening in mid-August, partner Robert Johnson told 69 News.
“We will hold a sneak peek of the venue this Saturday to coincide with the America 250th Celebration in Emmaus,” Johnson said.
“So, anyone who wants to come in and check out the space before we reopen fully is welcome to do so. For the sneak peek, we’ll only have drinks – some slushies, a couple of signature cocktails, and Lost Tavern beer and Five Maidens cider on tap. Our official soft reopening will be sometime in mid-August after Musikfest, and then we want to do a huge blowout grand reopening celebration on Sept. 13, the same day as the Eagles’ opening day for the regular season,” Johnson said. A new Toys “R” Us store is expected to open in September at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Township, a mall spokesperson told 69 News.
The space, on the mall’s upper level near the escalators, previously housed Aerie, which recently expanded with a larger Aerie/OFFLINE by Aerie store next door.

A new location of Bango, a quick-service restaurant focusing on healthful and tasty options, including salads, grain bowls, poke bowls, acai bowls, smoothies, and more, held a grand opening on Thursday, July 23, at 1042 Mill Creek Road, Suite 35, in Lower Macungie Township, franchisee Craig Schwartz told 69 News.

LEHIGH TWP., Pa. – A new diner is serving up omelettes, club sandwiches, steaks and more in Northampton County.
Diner on Lehigh, offering freshly prepared dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, opened Thursday at 4330 Lehigh Drive Suite 7 in Lehigh Township, owner Nelson Tassie said.
The diner replaces Diamond Grill, a restaurant that Tassie previously operated with a former partner for about two months.
Tassie’s wife, Julia, is continuing to assist with operations, and the couple’s decision to switch gears with a diner was prompted primarily by local residents’ feedback. Full story here.

Wild idea takes flight: Airplane fuselage converted into food trailer, set to debut in Bethlehem
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After nearly two years of serving tasty treats from a pop-up tent, a Lehigh Valley entrepreneur is launching the business’s next chapter from a retired airplane converted into a fully functioning food trailer.
The new concept, called Sook Airways, combines Aroi Mango founder George Awad’s love of street food and travel with an ambitious cross-country build that took the aircraft from an Arkansas salvage yard to a fabrication shop in Florida and, finally, home to the Lehigh Valley, according to a news release.
According to Awad, Sook Airways will hold a soft launch during Matchplatz, running July 30 through Aug. 9, at The Wooden Match, 61 W. Lehigh St., Bethlehem. Read more here.

2 fast-casual restaurant chains opening new locations at Bethlehem Square
BETHLEHEM TWP, Pa. – New food and dining options are coming soon to a prominent shopping center in Northampton County.
In recent days, exterior signage for a new location of Jersey Mike’s Subs was installed at 3926 Nazareth Pike in Bethlehem Township.
The forthcoming eatery, located between Lehigh Valley Jewelry Exchange and Tiger Schulmann’s kickboxing and mixed martial arts studio in Bethlehem Square, is expected to open in late October, franchisee Gerrit Curan franchisee told 69 News.
It will occupy space that was previously home to a Game Stop store.
