A Democratic challenger defeated a longtime incumbent supervisor in South Abington Twp. It was one of many races in the Abingtons in which Democrats came out on top, according to unofficial results.
John Hambrose defeated Republican South Abington Twp. Supervisor Chairman Giles W. Stanton, receiving 1,626 votes to Stanton’s 1,332 votes. Independent candidate Dean Faraday received 377 votes.
Reached Tuesday night, Stanton, who has served on the board for nearly 50 years, most as chairman, said he accomplished a lot of nice things and the township grew while he served on the board. He had no negative comments about Hambrose.
“The person who works hard wins,” Stanton said.
Attempts to reach Hambrose were not immediately successful.
