Woman killed in Southwest Philadelphia hit-and-run

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 29-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run in Southwest Philadelphia early Monday morning.

It happened around 3:15 a.m. at 72nd Street and Elmwood Avenue.

First responders found a woman lying on the street. Police said she was struck by a car as she got out of an Uber, and the driver fled the scene.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police believe the driver was in a black sedan.

SEPTA’s T5 trolley line is affected. Shuttle buses are running along Elmwood Avenue from 73rd Street to 49th Street and Woodland Avenue.
