U. SAUCON TWP., Pa. – A popular family-friendly feature at Promenade Saucon Valley has been discontinued as new plans take shape.
After careful consideration, the Upper Saucon Township center’s management team made the “difficult decision” to permanently retire its interactive pop-jet fountain, effective Monday, July 27, according to an online announcement.
Ongoing maintenance and necessary infrastructure updates played a part in the team’s decision, which “was not made lightly.”
“While it may appear to be a decorative fountain, interactive splash pads operate under many of the same public health and water quality standards as public aquatic facilities,” the announcement continues.
“They require continuous water filtration and disinfection systems, daily water quality testing by certified personnel, routine maintenance, state inspections, and specialized mechanical infrastructure to operate safely. After years of service, the fountain’s underground plumbing, pumps, filtration equipment, and mechanical systems have reached the end of their useful life. Continuing to operate the fountain would require significant infrastructure replacement and investment,” says the announcement.
The management team noted that Town Square, where the pop-jet fountain is located, has become the heart of Promenade Saucon Valley, “bringing the community together through events, celebrations, and shared experiences,” says the team.
With the pop jet fountain aging, the team determined that it was time to begin “the next chapter” for the space.
Over the coming months, the team will begin planning for a reimagined Town Square that “reflects the evolving needs of our community and continues to provide a welcoming place for guests to gather and connect.”
Exact plans are still being developed, but the team’s commitment remains the same: “creating an exceptional experience for everyone who visits Promenade Saucon Valley.”
“We understand that many families will be disappointed by this news, and we share those feelings,” the announcement continues.
“We are incredibly grateful for the memories the fountain has helped create over the years. Watching children splash, laugh, and make lasting summer memories has been one of the great joys of our Town Square. Although we are saying goodbye to a beloved feature, we are excited about the future and look forward to sharing more as plans take shape.”
