BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – Service Electric has told customers it is working on restoring service, and progress has been made, but the company has no timeline for when services will be fully restored and no idea what caused the outage.

For Stephen Lubas, technology is for more than just streaming music or watching TV, it’s for keeping his nearly 97-year-old mother in her home.

The electronic sensors, cameras, and help buttons in the woman’s home make it possible for her to live on her own and stay safe. But with the internet and phone down, complications arise.

“I can’t deal with her falling and then having no way to communicate,” said Lubas.

Lubas says earlier this week, the phone went dead, and after that, so did the TV and internet.

“That was the big thing. The telephone was out, so she couldn’t call out for help,” said Lubas.

For now, Stephen and his sister have had to move their mother in with them. But without a plan for when services will return, they have no idea when she’ll be able to return home.

“We had to make all those arrangements to take her back home, move food around, and take her out of her home. That gets very stressful for a person who’s going to be 97 in nine days,” said Lubas.

Stephen says all he wants is more clarity.

“A little more detailed explanation would have been a lot more relieving,” said Lubas.

As of now, Stephen and other customers don’t know when service will be restored.

Service Electric says if you are experiencing disruptions, keep your technology plugged in and powered on.

The company says to check their website and their Facebook page for updates.
