(WJET/WFXP) — The Erie County Department of Health said they’ve had three more collected mosquito samples test positive for West Nile Virus.
According to the Erie County Department of Health’s online dashboard, two samples collected in Millcreek Township and one in Harborcreek Township tested positive for the virus.

The dashboard said the two positive Millcreek samples were collected on July 22 and the Harborcreek sample was collected on July 21.
A sample collected in the City of Erie on July 1 also tested positive. So far, no human cases have been reported.
The DOH said they sample for the virus from May 1 to September 30 across 15 fixed traps and more floating sites every week, with more collected when positive samples are collected.
Director of Environmental Health Services Jesse Stiles said the number of positives is what they expect to see at this time of year.

They also said West Nile virus is the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the United States and is most commonly spread to people who have been bitten by an infected mosquito.
“As the season progresses, typically we’ll see some more positives come through. The heart of the season is usually in July and August, but it’s all summer all the way into the fall as well too,” said Stiles.
