The packages were discovered in separate locations yesterday evening, July 25, prompting major police activity and road closures.
Police were made aware of the first package, which was found outside The Botanist on King Street, at around 6pm.
At around 9pm, police were made aware of second suspicious package located outside McDonald’s on Friar Street.
The force then became aware of a third package, located outside The Hope Tap Wetherspoons, Friar Street, at around 10.30pm.
Officers attended all three scenes, and were initially supported by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit as a ‘precaution’.
Cordons were established, and the objects were removed.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “While an arrest has been made, we are actively investigating the incidents and officers are following several lines of inquiry.
“At this moment in time, we believe that all three incidents may be linked.”
Cordons have now been lifted but police expect some further disruption to traffic following road closures.
Superintendent Rachel Sykes said: “Additional patrols will be taking place in the area today to provide reassurance.
“The area is safe, but if you have any concerns, please speak to one of our officers while they are out on patrol.
“Thank you to those members of the public who contacted us and for the patience of those who were diverted from the area whilst our officers investigated these incidents.”
