Pennsylvania lawmakers seek to declare July 24 as ‘LeBron James Day’ after 76ers announcement
PHILADELPHIA —
A group of Pennsylvania lawmakers announced plans to introduce a resolution recognizing July 24, 2026, as “LeBron James Day” following the basketball star’s decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers.

State Rep. Morgan Cephas, D-Philadelphia, circulated a co-sponsorship memo to 24 other House members on July 24, stating, “Today, Pennsylvania became the home of one of the greatest athletes in sports history.”
The memo calls the 76ers one of the NBA’s most iconic franchises, citing a legacy shaped by Wilt Chamberlain, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson and Joel Embiid, and now LeBron James.
James is the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. His career accomplishments include:

Lawmakers said James’ talent, leadership and longevity have inspired generations of athletes around the world.
“Philadelphia is a city that loves basketball and celebrates excellence, passion, and winning,” the memo stated. “LeBron’s decision to finish his legendary career in Pennsylvania is a historic moment for our Commonwealth and for one of the NBA’s most storied franchises.”
The proposed resolution also recognizes his work away from basketball through the LeBron James Family Foundation and its I PROMISE initiatives. Those programs have expanded educational opportunities and supported children and families in James’ hometown of Akron, Ohio.
The legislation has not yet been submitted for introduction.
