Parkway East reopens with new traffic patterns after bridge replacement in Pittsburgh
The Commercial Street Bridge on Interstate 376 is now open, but drivers should be aware of new traffic patterns and ongoing closures in the area.
WILKINSBURG, Pa. —
The Parkway East has reopened after a 17-day closure, but drivers should expect new traffic patterns and some ongoing road closures.

Crews used the closure to complete additional work near the new Commercial Street Bridge.
“While the parkway was closed, PennDOT Allegheny maintenance folks did some work in the Squirrel Hill Tunnel while the tunnel was closed. We utilized the opportunity to do some ancillary work adjacent to the bridge,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said.
The Edgewood ramp, which had been closed prior to the bridge replacement, is now open, along with other ramps that were shut down during the project.
Additionally, the lane restriction on the eastbound side of Parkway East has been lifted, allowing for smoother traffic flow.
Drivers heading toward the Wilkinsburg and Forest Hills exits will encounter a new traffic pattern. The right lane is blocked, reducing the number of lanes from three to two.
Additionally, Ardmore Boulevard work is still going on. Crews are painting the bridge. Later this week, PennDOT said the single-lane restriction will be lifted from Ardmore headed toward Wilkinsburg.
Not all roads in the area are open yet.
“Commercial Street is still closed for a week, so please do not cut through Swisshelm Park. Hopefully, my neighbors appreciate that,” Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O’Connor said.
