ALTON, Ill. (First Alert 4) – A Pennsylvania man died last week at Alton Steel from an industrial accident, the Madison County Coroner says.
Andrew J. Bengel, 56, of Waterford, Pennsylvania, died on July 20 at Alton Steel at 5 Cut Street.
According to the coroner’s office, a lifting hook fractured, causing a heavy chain to hit Bengel. The preliminary cause of death following an autopsy on Bengel is blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen trauma.
The Alton Police Department, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Madison County Coroner’s Office are investigating the death.
