READING, Pa. – Reading’s planning team will further discuss feedback on the city’s proposed ordinance to regulate data centers.
During Tuesday night’s planning commission meeting, member Simon P. Wangolo said the planning team has scheduled a virtual meeting on Aug. 5 to review all comments received from members of the public and city officials on the proposed ordinance.
Last week, the planning commission met in a workshop meeting to discuss the draft of the ordinance that Reading City Council will ultimately vote on within the next six months.
Earlier this month, City Council voted to adopt a resolution to invoke the curative amendment process for the city’s zoning ordinance, which declared that the zoning ordinance is defective as it relates to data centers.
The resolution gave the city 180 days to adopt the regulations and amend its zoning ordinance. During that six-month period, no developer may seek an application for a data center.

Also Tuesday, the planners voted to recommend that City Council adopt an introduced ordinance that will restrict parking for 40 feet on the eastern side of the 700 block of Thorn Street.
The ordinance is to accommodate a parking lot at 743 Thorn St.
Earlier this month, City Council voted to amend the boundary of the Centre Park Historical District by removing the parking lot portion.
Council will consider the parking ordinance at its Aug. 10 meeting.
