A pair of contested Reading City Council races — one in District 4 and one for council president — each went to the Democratic candidate Tuesday.

Donna Reed was elected as council president, while Ray Baker handily bested his Republican competitor, Gary Colby.

Two other races in Districts 1 and 5 saw Democratic candidates running uncontested. Vanessa Campos retained her seat on council, and will be joined there by Rafael Nunez.

City Council president

Reed, who was appointed president by her peers in January, found that voters on Tuesday felt she deserved to keep the job.

Reed earned a total of 5,681 votes, while Republican Evelyn Morrison received 1,626.

All vote totals are incomplete and unofficial.

Council District 4

Democrat Ray Baker defeated his Republican competitor by a more than 3-to-1margin.

Baker received 1,109 votes, while Gary Colby received 296.
