Postal workers in Erie joined colleagues across the country on July 28 as part of a nationwide U.S. Postal Workers Day of Action, gathering outside the USPS facility on East 38th Street to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a strong public postal service.
During the event, workers displayed signs bearing messages such as “The Post Office Belongs to the People” and “USPS Is Not a Business, It’s a Public Service.” Organizers emphasized the Postal Service’s critical role in connecting communities, delivering essential mail and packages, and providing reliable service to residents regardless of location.
Participants said the demonstration was intended to remind the public that the U.S. Postal Service serves every American household and business, operating as a vital public institution rather than solely as a profit-driven enterprise.
The gathering also received support from local elected officials. State Representatives Pat Harkins and Bob Merski stopped by the event to stand with postal workers and show their support for the workforce.
