The Pittsburgh Steelers opened their 2026 training camp at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., on Wednesday, but three players will have to wait to get their work in. CBs Joey Porter Jr. and Donte Kent, as well as DB Jalen Ramsey began training camp on the PUP list and did not participate on Wednesday.
Kent is likely still rehabbing a torn ACL suffered at the end of last season. Ramsey tweaked his knee during OTAs and GM Omar Khan said on Tuesday he’s expected to miss a few weeks but return in time for Week 1, while Porter tweaked his back during the team’s mobility test on Tuesday.
Ramsey arrived midway through practice on Wednesday with no noticeable limp and without a brace, and it’s good news for him and the Steelers that the injury doesn’t appear to be serious.

Before practice, Kent and Porter played catch off to the side.
S DeShon Elliott, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 8 last season, watched one period of team drills from behind the defense and did not participate, per Alex Kozora. However, he was fully dressed and there’s been no mention of him still needing to rehab, so it’s likely the team is just being cautious with him.
DeShon Elliott was watching the period from 20+ yards back. Team might be a little cautious with him as he works back from his 2025 knee injury. But he’s fully dressed. #Steelers https://t.co/3nr0Bo686p

With the first day of practice coming without pads, there were no bumps or bruises or further injuries. The pads come on next week, but for the first time in a long time, there won’t be live tackling in Latrobe. That could help minimize some injuries, but as is always the case during training camp, there will be some guys who get banged up. The key is limiting that number so the Steelers are as healthy as possible heading into Week 1.
Additionally, there should be a fair amount of veteran rest days to keep some of the team’s older players fresh. Right now, the biggest injury storyline is to what degree Porter is injured, though it doesn’t seem to be very serious, and when he will be able to start practicing.
