BERKS COUNTY, Pa. – According to Met-Ed, about 1,130 customers in Berks County are out of power as the area experiences periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Residents have shared that numerous trees and power lines are down throughout the county, affecting both cell service and power.
Met-Ed says 450 customers in Reading City are currently without power.
Other areas experiencing outages include Albany TWP., Alsace TWP., Brecknock TWP., Lyons Borough, Maxatawny TWP., Muhlenberg TWP., and Ruscombmanor TWP., Met-Ed says.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Berks County that will remain in effect from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Multiple rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to be seen throughout the county over the course of the day.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase on Tuesday morning and continue through the afternoon into the night. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible, with 2 to 4 inches of total rainfall forecast in some locations, the National Weather Service says.
The heavy rain is leading to flooding throughout the area, including in downtown Reading.

Thunderstorms may cause excessive runoff, causing rivers, creeks, and streams to rise out of their banks. Flooding is possible in low-lying areas, locations with poor drainage, and urban areas, according to the Weather Service
Residents are advised to stay alert and use caution when driving. Drivers should avoid maneuvering through flooded roadways for their safety.
