Recently several concerned relatives of inmates at the Erie County Prison have surfaced and the County has released this statement regarding the prison’s operations. Those in the community had several concerns regarding a possible 48-hour lockdown this week and the sanitary conditions within the food service at the prison.
“The Erie County Prison is aware of questions circulating regarding recent operations at the facility and would like to clarify several inaccuracies.
Contrary to recent rumors, the Erie County Prison is not currently, nor has it recently been, on a 48 hour lockdown.
The prison also wants to address concerns regarding food service. All meals provided to inmates are safe for consumption, prepared in accordance with applicable food safety standards, and meet required nutritional guidelines. At no time has food that was unfit for human consumption been served to the inmate population.
The only recent change to meal service was the temporary removal of lettuce and salad bar items following the nationwide lettuce recall. This precautionary measure was taken to protect the health and safety of inmates and staff.
The Erie County Prison remains committed to providing a safe, secure, and professionally managed facility while ensuring the health and well-being of everyone housed and employed there.”
