There’s still a whole month of summer fun left in Pittsburgh, and our team at Kidsburgh has rounded up some of the top happenings so your family can make the most of your time together.
Whether you’re looking for a festival, convention, or just a way to spend a few hours, there’s a lot happening in the Pittsburgh region this month:

Through August 23: “The Tempest” at the Carrie Blast Furnaces
Quantum Theatre brings Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” to the Carrie Blast Furnaces for an outdoor theatrical experience unlike a traditional stage show. The production marks founder and Artistic Director Karla Boos’ final show with Quantum and the company’s 12th Shakespeare production. Families with older kids and teens are invited experience the classic story of magic, power, revenge and forgiveness in one of the region’s most striking historic spaces. This show runs Tuesdays through Sundays at 7:30 p.m. and tickets begin at $35.
Aug. 1: Opening Day of Science of Speed, Kamin Science Center
This immersive experience combines high-performance racing, science and adrenaline-pumping fun in a unique setting. The 21,000-square-foot experience, housed in the former SportsWorks building, features four signature attractions: a multi-level, all-electric kart track; high-end racing simulators; vintage and modern race cars along with interactive science exhibits; and a racing-inspired lounge known as the “Pitt Stop.” Tickets and more info can be found here on the Kamin website.

Aug. 1-2: Moraine State Park Regatta
Head to Lake Arthur where water games, eco-recreational and nature-themed activities fill two fun days. Kids and their grownups will have the chance to try standup paddleboarding, kayaking or a learn-to-sail session. Other events include a classic boat show, car cruise and butterfly release. Hang out after dark for fireworks over the lake on Saturday night. Regatta admission is free.
Aug. 1-16 and 22: Fall Fantasy at Kennywood Park
This 76-year tradition includes more than 130 local marching bands, and a Mardi Gras theme that once again extends beyond the parade floats with live music on the midways, specialty food and drinks, and a decked out French Quarter block party. Admission starts at $40.
Aug. 2-30: Soul Line Dancing at the Highland Park Reservoir
These weekly Sunday sessions incorporate R&B music in free, all-level classes for any age that begin with basic steps and finish with more advanced moves. These classes are free, with no registration required.

Aug. 7-9: Steel City Con at the Monroeville Convention Center
One of the largest comic cons in the country with more than 100,000 square feet of convention space, 750 vendor tables, artist alley and celebrity guests. Tickets are $28-$39 for one-day passes, $52 for three-day passes, free for ages 10 and younger with adult admission.
August 8: Glade Run Lutheran Services Family Food Truck Festival
Bring the family to Glade Run Lutheran Services’ historic Zelienople campus for a free outdoor food truck festival. The rain-or-shine event features food trucks, a drink tent, touch-a-truck fun, a kids’ zone, bake sale, raffles, vendors, music, animals and more. It’s a low-key summer outing with plenty for kids to explore while grownups grab lunch and browse local vendors. This event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
August 8: Inside out at the CMOA
Carnegie Museum of Art’s Inside Out series turns the museum’s Sculpture Court into a free outdoor gathering space for art, music and community on select Thursdays and Saturdays through the summer. The Aug. 8 Inside Out Day is geared toward families, with kid-friendly art and movement activities plus performances by regional arts organizations and collaborators. Food trucks and drinks will also be available, making it an easy Saturday stop for lunch, creativity and time outside. Find more info about this free event here.
August 8: West Point Ballet Summer Showcase at The Lindsay
West Point Ballet closes out its five-week summer program with a free Summer Showcase at The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center in Sewickley. Students from the Coraopolis-based dance studio will perform classical ballet, contemporary dance, musical theater and partnering, giving families a chance to see what young dancers have been working on all summer. The showcase is a one-night event from 6-8 p.m., and admission is free with no tickets required.
Aug. 13-16: Little Italy Days in Bloomfield
Expect loads of Italian foods and live music from accordion players, crooners and rock bands at this Bloomfield celebration. Don’t miss the bocce tournament or the pasta-eating contest at one of Pittsburgh’s longest-running ethnic festivals. Admission is free.
Aug. 15: Family Fest at Arts Landing
This event is the perfect chance to check out Downtown’s first playground and new amphitheater. Family Fest features live performances, story time, family pickleball, mascot meet-and-greet and a family dance party. Other activities include face painting, food trucks, lawn games and hands-on arts activities. This free event is best for ages 1-13 years.

Aug. 22: SkyWatch: Saturn Deep Dive at the Kamin Science Center
Learn about the Ringed Giant through data collected from missions set to explore the planet. Families can also recreate Saturn’s Rings through a take-home demo, and kids will have a chance to design their own Pocket Solar System. Viewing targets from the observatory deck (weather-permitting) include Saturn, the Moon and binary star Albireo A and Albireo B. Tickets are $12.

Aug 25-29: World’s Fair of Money
Got a coin collector or curious kid in general? Explore rare coins, paper money and numismatic treasures at the American Numismatic Association’s 2026 World’s Fair of Money at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Families will get to browse exhibits, meet coin dealers, attend educational presentations and learn what old coins or currency might be worth. Kids can also earn “Hoot Loot” to spend on prizes, making the show a hands-on outing for young collectors and history-loving kids. Admission is $10, $25 for a multi-day pass, and kids 12 and under are free. Aug. 29 is a free day for all attendees. Find the details here.
Aug. 28-30: Steel City Mega Pet Expo at the Monroeville Convention Center
This celebration of the bond between people and animals is designed to unite dog owners, cat lovers, reptile keepers, amphibian fans, small-mammal owners, bird enthusiasts and everyone in between. Tickets are $10 or $17 for a weekend pass.
Aug. 30: Great Lawn Movie Night at Arts Landing
Now that Downtown has a space for outdoor movies, they are showing them often! Bring the pack to settle on blankets for a screening of “The Lion King” (rated G). Find more info about this event and other free movie showings here.
