Erie is coming together to fight job losses in manufacturing as Congressmen Ro Khanna joined workers today for a discussion on rebuilding the local economy and fighting some of the more pressing concerns regarding modern challenges like AI.
The event is titled “Restoring Manufacturing: A Community Meeting with Representative Ro Khanna and Erie Workers.” This event aims to bring attention to the need for both sustainable and high-wage positions in Pennsylvania.
Today’s discussion focused on strategies to make the U.S. a manufacturing superpower once again, starting by tackling issues like outsourcing and the economic pressures facing working families.
Ro Khanna stated “I want to hear directly from you about the challenges you’re facing—from the impact of AI on our workforce to the need for high-wage jobs that stay right here in Pennsylvania. Together, we will discuss how to build a 21st-century economy where no one is left behind.”
Although he represents California, Khanna has frequently spoken about his roots in Pennsylvania. He was born in Philadelphia to Indian immigrant parents and has said that Bucks County, where his family later settled, played an important role in shaping his upbringing.
