Pennsylvania lawmakers propose bills on manufacturing and vaccine injury compensation
Pennsylvania Democratic Congressman Chris DeLuzio has unveiled three bills aimed at boosting American manufacturing and addressing environmental concerns.
Details of the three billsThe first bill would create a sovereign wealth fund to invest in factories, which would pay Americans a dividend once solvent.The second bill ties federal funding for public schools to whether they offer trade education.The third bill would impose a fee on foreign manufacturers for pollution that impacts the United States.
DeLuzio proposes pollution fees on foreign competitors
“This part of my Build America plan is pretty simple. It says when foreign competitors are polluting more, and in China they absolutely pollute more than our manufacturers, they then can’t bring it into America without paying a fee to take account of that pollution. If we don’t charge a fee, we’re putting American manufacturers at a disadvantage. And this has been a bipartisan idea,” DeLuzio said.
DeLuzio said he believes Pennsylvania will benefit from the legislation through job creation and a cleaner environment.
Smucker seeks to reform vaccine injury compensation
Meanwhile, Susquehanna Valley Congressman Lloyd Smucker has introduced legislation to reform the federal government’s process for compensating vaccine-related injuries.
The Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, established in the 1980s, compensates victims of adverse vaccine reactions. Smucker’s proposal seeks to include issues tied to the COVID-19 vaccine in the program.
The Lancaster County Republican said the legislation would reduce delays, strengthen procedural protections, improve transparency, and provide a fairer and more efficient process for those filing claims.
