BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Bethlehem is known for its art and music scene, and now, a new interactive art installation will put it all in the palm of your hand.
At Godfrey Daniels on Bethlehem’s Southside, Dave Fry and friends are getting ready for their gig at Musikfest.
The historic listening room has seen a lot of performances in its 50 year run.
Ramona LaBarre is the managing director.
She stumbled in here in the late 80’s and has been here ever since.
“A number of people come into the club every month who have lived here all their lives and never set foot into Godfrey Daniels. So it’s been 50 years of the best-kept secret,” said LaBarre.
That secret is out thanks in part to a new SouthSide Arts District installation known as the ART Stop that transformed an old bus sign into an interactive work of art.
“We all had noticed that this sign was starting to develop graffiti and stickers, and so rather than taking it down, we decided to re-imagine it as an illustrative map to show people all of the treasures that SouthSide Arts District has for our local community,” said Erin Zebertavage, SouthSide Arts District Downtown Manager.
Danny Finocchio of Easton is the artist.
“The SouthSide does a great job of celebrating art. There’s been murals here on the southside for decades,” said Finocchio. “Shining a light on all these organizations, whether it be the Touchstone Theater or what have you, to me, it’s about celebrating those entities and bringing them to life.”
There are 11 stops on the art installation, each one comes with a QR code that will take you to each website.
The ART Stop was made possible by a Main Street grant from the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.
LaBarre and the folks at Godfrey Daniels say they can’t wait to see who it brings in.
“We love welcoming new people into our room,” said LaBarre.
