One person died Thursday in a single-vehicle dirt-road crash in Erie near Interstate 25.
Weld County Road 10 is closed in both directions between Weld County Road 7 and the underpass below I-25, according to an Erie Police Department post on X. The vehicle, which police believe was heading eastbound, crashed just west of the underpass and before the road changed from dirt to pavement, according to spokesperson Amber Luttrell.
The vehicle, which had no passengers, didn’t crash into anything but went off the road and rolled over three times, Luttrell wrote in a text. Images Luttrell provided show a damaged red SUV off the road while investigators stand in the road.
The crash alert first came in at 12:36 p.m., Luttrell said.
The Erie Police crash team is investigating the crash, the post says. The road is expected to stay closed for hours, according to Luttrell
Erie Police believe there hasn’t been a fatal crash on a dirt road in the town in at least 14 years, Luttrell said. Luttrell didn’t know the last time this happened.
Any identifying information about the person who died will not be released until their family is notified, according to Luttrell. Information about when the crash was reported was not immediately available.
