PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Just when the Pirates lost its starting first baseman Ryan O’Hearn, potentially for the rest of the season, they get a MLB first baseman back.
Out since June 24 due to a hamstring injury, and then suffering a concussion after being hit by a pitch during a rehab assignment in A Bradenton, Spencer Horwitz was activated and in the starting lineup batting fifth for the series finale in Cincinnati Sunday.
The 28-year-old, left-handed hitter was the Pirates most consistent hitter through the first 74 games. He was hitting .280 with a .386 on-base percentage and .842 OPS with 11 doubles, and 10 home runs.
Pirates sent outfielder Billy Cook to AAA to make room on the roster.
